The Department of Social Services new national headquarters building accommodates 2,500 staff. This exemplar office environment incorporates a variety of working typologies that is capable of effective adaptation of fitout churn whilst providing a dignified workspace for persons with a disability.
The building is located on the edge of Tuggeranong Town Centre, positioned between the built city and the unbuilt environment of Namadgi National Park and the Brindabella’s. As fitout architects & interior designers for the project, DJAS sought to utilise this unique and contrasting context through all aspects of the project, creating spaces which are open and closed, light and dark, quiet and active.
To breakdown the typical monotony of the modern rectilinear office building, we worked with the client to provide interest points and circulation pathways which reflect their working culture. Accordingly, the fitout is arranged around three driving concepts; acoustic zoning, human scale, and collaboration areas.
