Canberra Grammar School Primary School Building

As part of the Canberra Grammar School masterplan, DJAS Architecture were commissioned to provide new teaching amenities for students, teachers, and office administration staff.

The retention of two significant regulated eucalyptus trees define the form of the building, with a continuous ribbon of brickwork providing a soft, textural response to the site and its surroundings. The Northern elevation features spacious verandas for circulation, offering weather protection and flooding the
learning spaces with natural daylight.

The project includes a new reception area, administration rooms, twelve new modern classrooms and two adaptable multi-purpose learning areas for flexible teaching. Our goal was to create a building that softened the entry to the primary school whilst working with the existing base building and site constraints.
