Three levels of Building 1 were refurbished in this project, providing a new social and learning heart to the University of Canberra Campus. The Level A pub was given a base building upgrade suitable for it to be leased to a new tenant. This included new glazed shop fronts and external works.
The Level B Refectory was enlightened by installing new finishes and lighting throughout. A new glazed entry lobby and shop fronts were installed. A new café was created. An assortment of new furniture was provided throughout, ranging from café seating to high benches with stools to more intimate sofas and up-holstered bench seating. Level C was re-planned as a Teaching and Learning Commons. Glass was maximised to improve the natural daylighting and visual connections. The client required a diverse range of flexible spaces and furniture to cater for different working modes. These included office spaces, meeting rooms, private space, collaborative and flexible workspaces. A curvilinear ribbon wall device was used to physically and visually tie the various spaces together.
