ANU Chemistry Lab

Completed
2012

Location
Canberra

The ANU Chemistry Laboratory Refurbishment was required after an accident which caused significant fire damage to the existing facility. The main objective for the design of the new lab was to create a spacious and open work environment for the users, enabling free movement between fume cupboards, work benches and the shared laboratory facilities. The layout separates storage and ancillary spaces from the main work areas, allowing a clear zone for experiments to be conducted with ease.

Fume cupboards and full height storage units are predominantly located against internal walls allowing greatest accessibility to remaining windows. This maximizes the amount of natural light entering the laboratory, creating a more pleasant work environment.

As well as all new works being fully compliant with current codes and standards, there is also a focus on flexibility to allow new benches, fixtures and fittings to later be seamlessly integrated into future laboratory projects at the ANU.
