Alastair Swayn sadly passed away on August 4th, 2016 following a courageous battle for over 18 months with a brain tumour. His great courage and dignity throughout his illness was inspirational

Alastair has lived and practiced Architecture in Canberra and beyond for over 40 years.

In 1979, Daryl Jackson established an office in Canberra to deliver a number of projects. Alastair joined the Canberra office at this time and in 1981 was appointed the Canberra Practice Manager.

Alastair became a director in 1987, and Daryl Jackson Alastair Swayn Pty Ltd (DJAS) was established. A testimony to Alastair’s wide ranging talents as an architect, communicator, manager and contributor to life in Canberra, DJAS grew to become a leading architectural firm, recognised for its commitment to high quality, intelligent design.

He was highly respected by his peers, appointed the inaugural ACT Government Architect in 2010, a role he embraced and concluded in only February of this year.

He developed strong relationships with Canberra’s bureaucracy, its universities, the business sector and the arts community. Reflecting his qualities of loyalty and kindness, Alastair had many close friends who will undoubtedly miss him, as will we all at Jackson Architecture.

His untiring commitment and focus has meant that his legacy will continue through those he touched with his energy and vision.
