Our firm is led by the two Principal Directors, Daryl Jackson and Alastair Swayn. The office is comprised of 25 team members ranging from experienced architects, graduates, administrators and students gaining practical work experience.

Alastair Swayn

Alastair is the resident Principal Director of the practice and has over 30 years experience on various projects within the ACT and nationally.  Alastair is valued as a superb mentor and leader, assisting his team to develop skills, knowledge and experience.

Among Alastair's most notable projects is the design of Brindabella Business Park and all its buildings, Capital Jet Terminal, QANTAS Defence Hangars, ANU Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics and redevelopment of the John Gorton Building and Hyatt Hotel Canberra.

Alastair's special skills include masterplanning, feasibility studies, commercial office buildings, aviation, university and educational projects, and sustainable design.

Daryl Jackson

Daryl is a Principal Director of the firm in partnership with Alastair. Daryl plays a significant role in the concept design of all our major projects providing design direction. Daryl has extensive experience on a range of major projects throughout Australia and overseas.
 

Some of Daryl's most notable work includes: Olivia Newton John Cancer Centre, MCG redevelopment, Etihad Stadium Docklands, United Nations International School of Hanoi, Northern Territory University Darwin masterplan, and Royal Melbourne Hospital Redevelopment.

James Andrews

James is a Principal who has spent 15 years with DJAS and is highly revered for his wealth of experience and knowledge.  James is responsible for design team development, design development, ESD documentation and construction superintendence of major projects. 

Specialising in sustainable design, commercial buildings, education, health and laboratory projects, and some of his most notable recent projects include: Calwell Performing Arts Centre, ACT Medical Forensic Centre, CSIRO Discovery Laboratories and Interaction Centre, and ANU Centre for Arab and Islamic Studies.

 

James Hetherington

James is a Senior Associate with over ten years experience working on a variety of projects within the Canberra region. A significant part of James' project experience is in health, laboratory and technical buildings, from the briefing stage through to construction completion. As well as the technical buildings James has experience as project leader for commercial, education and aviation projects.

Some of his most notable projects include: CSIRO Entomology, CIT Electrotechnology Building, ANU Research School of Physical Sciences and Qantas Hanger at the Canberra Airport.

Scott Hodgson

Scott is an Associate with over 10 years experience, some of which includes time spent working in America developing his skills and expertise on aviation and communication projects. Scott is also well skilled in all areas of architectural projects, most notably education, sporting, commercial and defence.

Some of Scott's most recent work includes: CEA Technology Building, Majura Office Park Offices, ANU Advanced Instrument and Technology Centre at Mt Stromlo, and ANU Research School of Humanities Scoping Study.

Michael Tolhurst

As an Associate, Michael has over 10 years experience working at DJAS and other interstate firms. Michael joined DJAS to perform the role of site architect for the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) Services Hub project, and has since completed additional projects for the AIS. Michael's experience includes client briefing, design development, contract documentation and construction administration.

Some of Michael's most recent work includes: University of Canberra Microsimulation Centre (first 5 star education building in the ACT), 3, 5 and 7 Molonglo Drive Brindabella Business Park, and the AIS Services Hub.

Alisa Moss

Alisa is a Senior Interior Designer who has been with DJAS for more than eight years during which time she has developed extensive skills in all areas off interior design. Alisa has strong expertise with feasibility studies, spatial planning, design development, selection and finishes and documentation. Alisa is a determined advocate of sustainable design and the importance of improving indoor environment quality.  In 2007 Alisa was awarded the AV Jennings Churchill Fellowship enabling her to tour overseas and visit leading international design companies and research facilities. Attending international conferences was of great value in furthering Alisa's knowledge of research and development in sustainable design.

Some of Alisa's most recent projects include: Fair Work Ombudsman office, Singapore High Commission residence, Dataflex and Australian Medical Council fitouts.
